Pop superstar Adelaide Kay is left behind in Preston, Virginia when her tour bus, controlling manager and entourage accidentally leave without her. She finds herself stranded in the freezing cold with no money, no phone and no plan. A local family, the Lapps, take her in. They know the true meaning of the season, even if theyre close to losing their Christmas Tree farm. No one in the family recognizes Adelaide except Dillon, the oldest son--an emerging musician, hoping one day to follow his heart and move to Nashville. Adelaide enjoys the break from stardom and begins writing a new song with Dillon that shows her true voice, as opposed to that of her bubble-gum pop writers and manager. As Adelaide falls for Dillon, she realizes that their song has a chance at saving the farm.
Twenty-eight year old Adelaide Kay is on the cusp of true country music superstardom. In what looks from the outside as an overnight success story has truly been a long road to what shes always wanted in a career, a road filled with talent but also self-doubt. She has been signed to appear alongside a number of bona fide country music superstars at a Christmas Eve showcase at the Palace in Nashville, that show, along with her latest hit Rockstar, which could solidify that superstardom. That time-line makes the current choices about her career all the more important, she not sure if the choices over the last year, which were all made by Russell, her manager during that time, the measures she wants to be known by from this point forward despite those choices getting her to where she is. The complete control Russell wields includes what songs she sings which are all about pining for the boy portraying her as younger than she really is and which do not truly represent her as a person, and publicity, Russell having manufactured a romance between her and one of those superstars, Cole Wyatt, purportedly the "Rockstar" in her hit song. En route from Nashville to appear on a talk show in Philadelphia less than two weeks before that Palace gig, Adelaide, out of a Murphys Law of circumstances, gets stranded by herself in small town Preston, Virginia. Without anyone in town knowing her true identity (she passing herself off solely as Addy), she is befriended by the Lapp family - mother and father Emma and Dale, adult son Dylan and teenage daughter Hailey - the owners/operators of the Lapp Christmas tree farm who take her in as long as it takes until her "ride" can come to get her. That offer is despite what Adelaide eventually learns is the financial troubles they are facing with the bank close to foreclosing on their property and their thirty year business. As Adelaide spends time with the Lapps, especially Dylan, a songwriter and musician himself who quickly discovered Adelaides true identity which he promised to her not to divulge to anyone, she may get a clearer picture of what she wants for her life as she falls for Dylan and his music.
