Story: Maggie, 19, works at a lesbian/LGBT bookstore. Her moms getting divorced and has invited herself to stay with Maggie. Maggie hasnt told her, shes lesbian. Her new girlfriend moves in as well.

Two attractive young lesbians, Maggie and Kim, meet in Vancouver, develop a passionate romance, and move in together. Meanwhile, Maggies well-meaning but naive mother Lila gets divorced and decides to move to Vancouver and join the household. Soon after, Lila is befriended by Judy, a transsexual about to undergo a sex-change operation. Complications ensue as the conservative Lila learns the truth about Maggie, Judy, and their diverse group of friends.

Better than chocolate follows a young lesbian named Maggie. Living in Vancouver Maggie works in a book store which sells titles about the lgbt+ community, including guides to safe sex. With this material having been deemed obscene, we witness the prejudice and discrimination towards the community and the outcome of this on their lives. Meanwhile Maggie meets a young artist named Kim. They quickly develop an intense romance and move in together. However when Maggies mother and brother come to stay she is forced to decide between living in secret or revealing who she really is. A tale of love, acceptance, loss and pleasure.
