Story: A family struggling to get by during the Depression expects another presentless Christmas until the father brings home a dollar for them to spend on presents.

The Kamp family is struggling to get by in the midst of the Depression, especially after Mrs. Kamps untimely death. With her mother gone and her father overwhelmed by doctor bills as her brother battles polio. little Ruth expects another Christmas without gifts or festivities. But when her father brings home one dollar in change and lets the children use it to buy special gifts for each other, the family discovers that money isnt what fills Christmas with joy, love, and miracles.

During the Great Depression, the Kamp family has struggled since Mrs. Kamps untimely death. The older children do their best to take care of the family, but the younger children, Hopalong Cassidy fan Norman and straight-talking little Ruthie, struggle the most with a bleak-looking future. As their father faces mounting debts from Normans battle with polio, the siblings expect a Christmas without presents. But when he scrapes together a dollar to use for gifts, things change. As each child comes up with a special gift to give another family member, they start to see many of their dearest wishes come true. Perhaps a boy who struggles to walk can become a real cowboy after all.
