When Lisa () takes a last-minute Christmas trip to her hometown of Evergreen, she finds that the historic general store has been closed. Using her skills as a professional retail designer, Lisa decides to keep local tradition alive and help the good people of Evergreen bring the store back to life. As Lisa charms a local contractor named Kevin () into working with her, the pair find themselves facing one surprise after another as they restore the store to its former glory. When the staff at the Kringle Kitchen temporarily accept the stores beloved Mailbox to Santa for safekeeping, the townspeople find and rally around a mysterious 25-year-old letter that never made it to the North Pole. As old traditions are made new again, Lisa finds herself falling for Kevin, the traditions, and the town of Evergreen.
Lisa Palmer and her best friend and business partner Oliver operate a retail redesign and staging business in Boston, although their work takes them across the country wherever their clients are located. Wanting a sense of home for Christmas, Lisa, who grew up a military brat, decides for the first time to head back to where she was born and of where she has the fondest childhood memories of Christmas, namely the Northern Vermont town of Evergreen. Those strongest memories of Christmas are centered on Daisys General Store, which she finds has now been closed for good for a year, Daisy who passed shortly after the closing of the store. Ezra Green, the town mayor and Daisys godson, is handling the sale of the store on behalf of the estate. In both roles, he wants to see whoever buys the store to retain its small town charm as opposed to some mass chain outlet. A sale must happen by the new year or else the property reverts back to the ownership of the bank who can dispose of it as they see fit. Having the same vision as Ezra, Lisa volunteers her services to "stage" the store to show it off to its best advantage to potential buyers. With much structural work that needs to be accomplished in the store crumbling around her, she is provided the services of a general contractor, Kevin Miller who too is back in Evergreen for the holidays where he grew up, where his father Henry still lives, but where Kevin too has not been for Christmas in years in his work taking him across the country. His long deceased mother Ruth Miller used to be known as the one in town who did Christmas right, Daisy who took up that mantle following Ruths passing. Wanting to stay true to Daisys vision of the store, Lisa wants to use as much from it for inspiration. It is a twenty-five year old letter written to Santa that is found hidden in the store that provides much of that inspiration, that letter which Kevin may know more about and in a way that Lisa cannot even envision. In the process of working together, they start to fall for each other. A happy ending for the two of them hit the hurdles both of misunderstandings of actions on the others part, and uncertainty of what sort of future each will have regardless of the other.
