Cynical reporter Charity (Amber Stevens West) gets the opportunity of a lifetime when her boss, Janet (Cheryl Ladd) assigns her to profile Erik Gallagher (Marco Grazzini), a handsome bachelor who organizes millions of dollars to help the less fortunate every Christmas. Erik claims his charity is all funded by Santa Claus, so Charitys assignment is to discover where the money really comes from-something other reporters have failed to find out. Knowing this assignment could make or break her career, Charity is initially frustrated that Erik and his associates reveal hardly any information about his mysterious source of funding. But as Charity spends more time with Erik, she begins to appreciate his unwavering conviction that anything is possible if you just believe. With her articles deadline approaching, Charity discovers the real source of Eriks funding and must decide whether or not exposing the truth is worth ruining her newfound belief in the magic of Christmas and love for Erik.
In New York City, Charity Jones aspires to become a hard hitting, serious journalist, her blog which she does not consider as legitimate journalism despite it having a modest following. She also writes for the Times Square Journal magazine, and with two weeks before Christmas, she is surprised to be the one chosen by the magazines Managing Editor Janet Cohen to write the full page Christmas feature. The subject for the feature is the non-profit Never Stop Believing, a Christmas charity centered on making Christmas wishes come true - i.e. the giveaway personalized Christmas presents - for a select number of people, they having given away in excess of $2 million worth of "wishes" last Christmas. While they do fund-raise, the non-profits founder, Erik Gallagher, seemingly would not have the financial means on his own to provide that amount of gifts in never having held a paying job besides one at a chocolate shop, and not coming from a wealthy background being a product of the foster care system, in addition to not having any corporate sponsors on the books. Whenever asked, he has always stated that the gifts are from Santa himself solely for those who believe. Janet thus wants the piece to be an exposé of the charity, the core of the story to be what Eriks angle is and how he is able to fund the charity, Janet implying that there must be some sort of fraud or unsavory angle involved. Erik, who agreed to the story, had no idea of Janets chosen angle. He also agreed on the condition that whoever assigned to the story take part in the events leading up to the presents distributed on Christmas Day, namely a different seasonal themed charitable event open to the masses on each of the twelve days of Christmas, to understand fully the workings of the charity. Charity walks into the assignment as skeptical as Janet, and is as much so when she comes to the understanding that Eriks stock line is his true belief: that the personalized gifts are from Santa solely for the believers. But as Charity and Erik seem to start to fall for each other and Charity comes to believe that Erik at least wants earnestly to embody the spirit of Christmas through the charity, Charity gets caught in the middle by needing to stay true to what Janet wanted for the story with her job and career on the line against not wanting to hurt Erik, such a story regardless of the truth which would do so.
