The Portuguese poet and essayist Jorge de Sena was forced to exile his country for twenty years, first in Brazil and later in the United States. In all that time (1959-1978), he maintained an interesting epistolary correspondence with the also writer Sophia de Mello Breyner Andersen. Those letters are the testimony of the deep friendship that united them, letters of longing and desire to fill years away with hours of conversation. Thus, through excerpts and verses read and recited in the film by countless actors or collaborators, a perspicacious dialogue is established that reveals opinions at times divergent, but always united by a firm bond that both would strive to preserve until the last breath.
