On July 31, 1969, in Las Vegas, Nevada, staged a triumphant return to the concert stage from which he had been absent for almost a decade. His series of concerts broke all box office records and completely re-energized the career of the King of Rock n Roll. This feature-length concert film crosses the footlights, revealing the legendary singer as a man preparing for an emotional career comeback, the fans who traveled from all over the world for this history-making event - and the electrifying live performance of the man who gave us rock n roll.
The filmed account of rock and roll giant Elvis Presley begins at the singers headquarters on the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer lot, as he prepares for his first concert tour since 1957 and an upcoming appearance at the "Elvis Summer Festival" in the Las Vegas International Hotel. Intercut with the musical numbers are interviews with admiring fans, who try to explain the singers appeal and significance, and scenes of the fifth annual Elvis Presley Appreciation Society Convention in Luxembourg. The last half of the film is devoted to the Las Vegas appearance and includes shots of Presley fans Cary Grant, Juliet Prowse, Xavier Cugat, Charro, Rona Barrett, and Sammy Davis, Jr.
