Baron Victor von Frankenstein has fallen on hard times; he was tortured at the hands of the Nazis for not cooperating with them during World War II and he is now badly disfigured. As his familys wealth begins to run out, the Baron is forced to allow a TV crew shooting a documentary on his monster-making ancestors to film at his castle in Germany. However, the Baron has plans of his own: using the money from the film crews rent, he buys an atomic reactor and uses it to create a hulking monster, transplanting his butlers brain into the monster and using it to kill off the film crew for more spare parts.
1970. To capitalize on the two hundred thirtieth anniversary of the original story, an American film crew is shooting a new version of the Frankenstein story for television, their hope to parlay it into a series. For further publicity, they have contracted to shoot the movie on the grounds of the German castle of the last remaining member of the real Frankenstein family, Baron Victor von Frankenstein, following in his great-great-grandfathers footsteps in being a scientist. As filming progresses, Frankenstein begins to have mixed emotions in his business manager, Wilhelm Gottfried, talking him into the arrangement. On the one hand, he has to put up with the impositions of the cast and crew and their many interpersonal problems, they who, as per the contract, are being housed in the castle during shooting. But with Gottfried having already sold all his personal possessions of any monetary value, Frankenstein needed the money to purchase an atomic reactor to complete his current science project, the nature of which he has not divulged even to trusted Gottfried. While Frankenstein capitalizes on one opportunity to reach his end goal in the project, he may not be able to control the proverbial runaway train in the potentially deadly mix between his projects progression and the presence of the movie people, whether he wants to or not.
