Story: A waifish prostitute wanders the streets of Rome looking for true love but finds only heartbreak.

Practicing the worlds oldest profession in the archaeological walk of Romes Parco di Porta Capena, the trusting, stubbornly-optimistic streetwalker Cabiria refuses to lose faith in love. After escaping death by the skin of her teeth, the hurt and momentarily-disenchanted Cabiria continues to confront life with a mixture of naivete and arrogance. One evening she ventures into the elegant Via Veneto and gets picked up by suave film star Alberto Lazzari. Disappointment awaits once more, and as poor Cabiria prays to Virgin Mary for guidance and a blessing, the man of her prayers, Oscar DOnofrio, barges into her life after a chance encounter at a vaudeville theatre. But do miracles happen?

Cabiria is a wide-eyed waif, a streetwalker living in a poor section of Rome where she owns her little house, has a bank account, and dreams of a miracle. A boyfriend steals 40,000 lire from her and nearly drowns her, a movie star on the Via Veneto takes her home with him, at a local shrine she seeks the Madonnas intercession, then she meets an accountant whos seen her, hypnotized on a vaudeville stage, acting out her hearts longings. He courts her. Did fate lead to their meeting? Is this finally a man who appreciates her for who she is?
