Story: Belinda Tyler struggles to choose between her career aspirations as a doctor and her feelings for a New York lawyer who wants a traditional wife.

Missies adopted daughter Belinda Tyler follows her dream of being a doctor--in a time period that doesnt look kindly on women with careers, especially in the medical field. But strong-minded Belinda is determined to become a doctor, and she manages to prove her abilities while assisting the local doctor and caring for an old woman who recently had a stroke. Belinda nurses her back to health and helps her regain the use of her arm. She also meets Drew, their deceased neighbors nephew, who has come to get his uncles farm in shape to sell, after which he will return to New York to join his fathers law practice. He has no desire to stay in this small, unsophisticated town, but after meeting Belinda he has second thoughts. Belinda also feels something for Drew, but she is conflicted. Although the norm of the time is for a woman to get married and have children, Belinda wants more: she has a calling and a great mind for medicine.

Sheriff Zach Tylers adoptive daughter Belinda Tyler dreams of a medical career but cant afford med school and local GP Micah Jackson sees no point in training a girl, yet cant turn down a well-read nurse. Illiterate farmer Charles Kent and his second wife are offered jobs so they can learn to read for their foster son Caleb, whom Drew helps them adopt before his criminal biological father is released from jail and on the way to reclaim his son.
