Story: Wilbert Winkle, a henpecked, mild-mannered, middle-aged bank clerk and handyman, finds himself in the midst of battle in the South Pacific.

Henpecked Mr. Winkle is only too happy to go to war when hes drafted. Later his nagging wife and his neighbors are astonished when he returns home as a decorated war hero.

Wilbert Winkle, a shy, retiring, middle-aged bank teller, decides on a job change to handy-man over the objections of his domineering wife. To his surprise, and nearly everyone elses, he is drafted into World War II and somehow passes the physical and overcomes a tough boot camp experience. The usually mild-mannered Winkle finds himself in the Pacific theater with a chance to be a hero.
