Story: Two young children, who, rather than part with an old pet lion who was once a circus performer, go on a perilous mountain trek to stay with a recluse friend.

11-year old Napoleon lives with his grandfather and has a good friend who is a circus clown; Napoleon takes care of his pet lion, Major, when he returns to Europe. But after Napoleons grandfather dies, he and his best friend, Samantha, run off with Major.

Napoleon lives with his grandfather. When he and his best friend, Samantha, meet an aging circus clown who wants to return to Europe, they offer to take his pet lion, Major. When Napoleons grandfather senses that hes dying, he tells him, and after he dies, Napoleon hires a young man named Danny to help him bury him, and Danny tells him that he can come stay with him in his mountain cabin if he ever needs a refuge. Before he died, Napoleons grandfather had sent a letter to his uncle asking him to look after him, but when its sent back, Napoleon gets Samantha and they take Major through the mountains to stay with Danny.
