Story: A mailman reveals the origin of Santa Claus.

The Mailman decides to answer some of the most common questions about Santa Claus, and tells us about a small baby named Kris who was left on the doorstep of the Kringle family (toymakers). When Kris grew up, he wanted to deliver toys to the children of Sombertown. But its Burgermeister (Herr Meisterburger) is too mean to let that happen. And to make things worse, theres an evil wizard named Winter who lives between the Kringles and Sombertown, but Kris manages to melt Winters heart (as well as the comely schoolteachers) and deliver his toys.

Special Delivery Kluger - S.D. for short - the postal delivery mail carrier to Santa Claus, is privy to all the questions asked of Santa about him and the Christmas traditions surrounding him. In telling Santas story from the beginning, S.D. attempts to answer many of those questions, including: why children write to him; how he got the names Santa Claus and Kris Kringle; how he became associated with toy-making elves; why he delivers toys; how he got his distinctive "ho-ho-ho" laugh, and the red suit; how he knows whos been naughty or nice; why he comes down the chimney, and why he places some toys in the stockings hung on the fireplace mantle and some under what are now known as Christmas trees; how Santas reindeer can fly; why he started growing whiskers; who Mrs. Claus is; why they set up their castle and workshop at the North Pole; and why he has devoted his toy giving to the one night of Christmas Eve. To provide all this merriment, Santa had to overcome some less than trouble-free encounters with the icy-hearted Winter Warlock, and the mean mayor of Sombertown, the Burgermeister Meisterburger, who considered Kris an outlaw.
