The Gallant Hours depicts the crucial five-week period in October-November 1942 after Admiral Halsey took command of the beleaguered American forces in the South Pacific Area. That period of combat became a turning point in the struggle against the Japanese Empire during the World War II. The story is told in flashback, framed by Halseys ceremony of going on inactive duty in 1947.
In October 1942, Vice Admiral William "Bull" Halsey assumes command of Allied forces in the South Pacific. His task is a daunting one - ground forces on Guadalcanal are close to being over-run and the US Navy is outnumbered by its Japanese counterpart. What follows is the most desperate period in the Pacific War, and a series of battles were vital to the outcome of the war.
