Rachel arrives in New York from her Amish community intent on becoming a dancer. Unfortunately, Billy Minskys Burlesque is hardly the place for her Dances From The Bible. But the shows comedian Raymond sees a way of wrong-footing the local do-gooders by announcing the new Paris sensation, "Madame Fifi," and putting on Rachels performance as the place is raided. All too complicated, the more so since her father is scouring the city for her and both Raymond and his straight-man Chick are falling for Rachel.
In 1925, Rachel Schpitendavel, a young Amish girl, comes to New York City to dance. She ends up at Minskys, a legendary burlesque house that prude Vance Fowler is trying to shut down. As she grows more accustomed to the ways and mores of city life, her family searches for her and a comedian falls for her.
