Story: After a tragic incident, a man drifts into a world populated by thugs and speed junkies.

After the murder of his beloved wife, Danny Parker is set adrift in a world where nothing is as it seems. On his journey he befriends slacker Jimmy the Finn and becomes involved in rescuing his neighbor Colette from her own demons. Danny is antagonized by undercover narcotics agents and sadistic dealer Pooh-Bear.

A young man in Los Angeles presents two sides of himself. On one side, he is Tom Van Allen, a happily married jazz trumpeter. On the other side, he is Danny Parker, a heavily tattooed meth addict - a "tweaker" - traveling in a crowd of fellow tweakers, who he trusts, especially his best friend Jimmy the Finn, in they having the bond of their shared communal activity. Although the connection between the two sides is initially unclear, Tom and Danny are indeed the same person as Danny hides evidence of his Tom life in his apartment closet. While not working against his fellow tweakers, Danny has been coopted by two LAPD Narcs, Al Garcetti and Gus Morgan, as an informant in trying to pull a sting against Pooh-Bear, a psychotic drug supplier who lost his nose through excessive snorting of drugs. What happens with Danny and by association Tom in these situations is affected by Dannys encounters with his new neighbor, Colette Vaughn, who is constantly running from the physical abuse inflicted on her by her Mexican boyfriend, Quincy.
