Story: In 1970s Arizona, a young married man becomes an independent long-haul driver and he risks his life fighting the corruption in the local long-haul trucking industry.

Returning from a stint in the Air Force, Carrol Jo Hummer borrows money to buy a truck, hoping to make enough money hauling produce to marry Jerri Kane and set up housekeeping. He discovers that the long-haul business is run by racketeers and decides to fight the corrupt forces that control the trucking business.

Returning home from the Air Force, Carrol Jo marries his sweetheart, gets a loan on a new rig then set out to make his living truck driving, only to find that the industry is now controlled by organized crime. Carrol Jo fights for his independence and trouble ensues.
