Episode Info: Mobster Charlie Bombay, an old foe of McGarretts, escapes from prison, thanks to a bribed guard. But Bombays confederates tip Five-O to Bombays whereabouts before Charlie can flee Hawaii. McGarrett arrests Bombay in Hilo, thanks to the tip and wants to take the criminal back to prison personally. But the small police airplane containing McGarrett and Bombay crashes because of turbulent weather. The pilot is killed in the crash and Bombay overpowers an injured McGarrett.

Story: The investigations of Hawaii Five-0, an elite branch of the Hawaii State Police answerable only to the governor and headed by stalwart Steve McGarrett.

Five-0 was a special state police unit answering only to the Governor of Hawaii. It worked with Honolulu police to fight the underworld in the island state. Sooner or later virtually all the bad guys heard Steve McGarrett grunt "Book em, Danno!" though chief bad guy Wo Fat was caught after MacArthur left the series.

Although based in Downtown Honolulu in the Iolani Palace, the men of Hawaii Five-0 are members of the Hawaii State Police, and are accountable to the Governor of Hawaii. Led by Steve McGarrett, its mission is to deal with "organized crime, murder, assassination attempts, foreign agents, felonies of every type".
