Episode Info: Sir Richard Lonsdale and his driver run a man on a scooter off the road without even stopping. The man returns the "favour" by vandalizing their car outside the Aidensfield. But the man does not stop at that. He even tries to blackmail Sir Richard, but the next morning he is found dead in his home. Murdered! David buys a used radio and by chance it also tunes in to the police channels. Aunt Peggy figures it is a good way to earn a little extra money if they listen to police radio and sell the stories to the local newspaper.

Constable Nick Rowan is a English Policeman in the 1960s who decides to be reassigned to the same small village where his wife was born. There, he patrols the countryside as a part of a small attachment in the area dealing with the various events and problems that come up while at same time keeping a eye on Claude Greengrass, the local rogue.

Set in the 1960s within the North Riding of Yorkshire. the series initially followed the cases of village constables (police officers stationed in villages). It eventually expanded to also cover the cases of local doctors and nurses, and the lives of certain villagers.
