Episode Info: Harry Schofields great ambition is that his son Len becomes a professional cricket player, but when Len is not accepted at cricket training, he runs away from home. Joss Harrop has a couple of mares he wants covered, but stud fees have risen and he cannot afford it. Greengrass has a perfect solution to that. They "borrow" lord Ashfordlys race horse Ashfordly Lad for a couple of hours and return the stud before anybody notices it is missing. That is a lot easier said than done. Not getting hold of the horse that is, but returning it!

Story: The 1960s lives and adventures of the police constabulary, medical staff, and residents of Ashfordly and Aidensfield.

Constable Nick Rowan is a English Policeman in the 1960s who decides to be reassigned to the same small village where his wife was born. There, he patrols the countryside as a part of a small attachment in the area dealing with the various events and problems that come up while at same time keeping a eye on Claude Greengrass, the local rogue.

Television adaptation of the novel series "Constable" by Nicholas Rhea. Set in the 1960s within the North Riding of Yorkshire. the series initially followed the cases of village constables (police officers stationed in villages). It eventually expanded to also cover the cases of local doctors and nurses, and the lives of certain villagers.
