Emilia, the First Lady of Mexico, has big plans to improve the conditions of the country and its people. As she starts to lose faith in her husband, President Diego Nava, she needs to figure out how to deal with a devastating new challenge.

Disillusionment with the progress she and her husband hoped to see in Mexico has seeped into Emilias marriage to the President and she has decided to divorce him. But on the night she means to leave, she has a violent argument with her husband Diego and he falls off the balcony onto the top of a car. An autopsy reveals that a bullet to the head, not the fall, killed him, and Emilia goes on the run until she can prove that she didnt kill her husband and also figure out who did. She will need help from the very people who were hurt the most by government policies.
