Episode Info: When multi-millionaire Maxwell Abbott dies, he arranges for 5 couples to participate in a winner-take-all automobile rally using his collection of classic cars. The prize: the vintage cars themselves, valued at nearly $2 million. McMillan was an old friend of Abbotts and hes pledged the collection to the police benevolent fund if he wins. It soon becomes apparent that someone is prepared to win at all costs. Story: San Francisco Police Commissioner Stewart "Mac" McMillan and his amateur detective wife keep their marriage unpredictable while solving the citys most baffling crimes.

Attorney and US Navy vet Stewart "Mac" McMillan is appointed Commissioner of Police for the city of San Francisco. He often handles the very high profile cases personally. Helping him out on many of them is his wife Sally, whos father was a detective for the SFPD. In fact, Sally gets so involved that she often puts herself in harms way. They are often assisted by Macs loyal, but somewhat inept assistant Sgt. Charlie Enright and their hard drinking, smart mouthed live in maid Mildred. Sadly, a few years after Macs appointment Sally dies in a plane crash. Also, Mildred quits her position and is replaced by her scatterbrained sister Agatha. Also, in later years Enright is promoted to lieutenant.

Stewart MacMillan, former officer in Navy intelligence and defense attorney, is the appointed Police Commissioner in San Francisco of the early 1970s. A former ladies man in his 40s, Mac is rugged, handsome and married to Sally, an attractive and imaginative, if not slightly neurotic woman in her mid-20s. The daughter of a late SFPD detective and a wise but kooky socialite, Sally is always alert when other women give her husband the eye... which is often. The MacMillans are crazy about each other and they trade sexual banter, occasionally move with the social set and solve crime. With Macs prosaic, plodding partner, Sgt. Enright, and their tippling, wiseacre housekeeper, Mildred, they tackle many of the citys more unique crimes.
