Episode Info: Its Alberts sixty-fifth birthday and, after pretending he has forgotten, Harold buys him a pair of gloves. He takes him to the theatre and to a Chinese restaurant for a birthday treat but these are alien to Albert and the evening ends in disaster.

Story: British sitcom about a father-and-son rag-and-bone business in London. The intergenerational divide between the miserly Steptoe and his ambitious son results in comedy, drama, and tragedy.

Thirtysomething Harold and his elderly father Albert work as rag-and-bone men (collecting and selling junk). Harold is ambitious and wants to better himself, but his father always seems to ruin his plans, sometimes accidentally and other times deliberately. The pair live in squalor and the father has some disgusting personal habits which continuously embarrass the son.
