Story: A ranching family in Montana faces off against others encroaching on their land.

Yellowstone follows the Dutton family, led by John Dutton, who controls the largest contiguous ranch in the United States, under constant attack by those it borders - land developers, an Indian reservation, and Americas first National Park. It is an intense study of a violent world far from media scrutiny - where land grabs make developers billions, and politicians are bought and sold by the worlds largest oil and lumber corporations. Where drinking water poisoned by fracking wells and unsolved murders are not news: they are a consequence of living in the new frontier. It is the best and worst of America seen through the eyes of a family that represents both.

Yellowstone is "Dallas" for the 21st Century. Instead of South Fork there is Yellow Stone. Instead of JR Ewing there is John Dutton. Like JR, Dutton is willing to do anything to preserve his holdings. The plot line in Yellowstone can be hard to follow because the characters are many. However, the episodes are time-tested melodrama with plenty of bloodshed, twisted romance, revenge, greed all set in the wide open Westrrn United States. In order to accept all this the viewer must suspend certain beliefs in favor of fictional conceits such as Montana of 2020 is essentially very similar to Dodge City in 1870.
